A brief story of a slip and fall that has me laid up for longer than I would like. I was carrying water in my garage, it spilled over the side and I slipped and fell directly on my kneecap. The fracture was in five pieces, but surgery on Thursday gave me a plate and several screws to put everything back together. Since surgery, I have been icing, elevating and trying to deal with the pain (and the grogginess of the pain meds). The pain is improving, but I am confined to a walker since no weight bearing for at least 2 weeks, maybe 6 weeks. There is a lot of physical therapy in my future.
Timing is a funny thing. Thank goodness we got our European trip in and the baby shower, but my daughter’s due date (in Michigan) is in 6 weeks. It breaks my heart that I may not get there for the birth or to help her, but my motivation is high to get there as soon as I can. Sometimes, life really throws you a curveball out of the blue.
Oh gosh - I am so, so, sorry! I hope you heal very quickly! Surgery is no fun - I just helped my husband through knee surgery followed by hip replacement. I am certain that with the motivation you have to get better, you will be up and around in record time! (But take care of yourself!)
ReplyDeleteGoing to work hard when I get the green light for more advanced PT!
DeleteOh, I sure hope you get better in time to help with the new baby!
ReplyDeleteI will get there!
DeleteI'm so sorry for the health challenge. I've been nursing an ankle fracture most of the summer and am trying not to overdo but it's not easy. I'm sure you're anxious to just get it behind you, but its something you can't rush. I hope you're doing lots better when baby girl arrives.
ReplyDeleteMy goal is to at least be walking by then - then we will see. New mothers need their mamas!
DeleteOh no! I'm so sorry to read about your fall. I'll be praying for a speedy recovery so you can go see the new grandbaby!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh no! Landing on your kneecap must have hurt so much! Glad surgery went well though. I pray you heal faster than expected and you're able to go back to help your daughter with the birth.
