To celebrate our 30th anniversary, my husband and I went to Traverse City in northern Michigan for a weekend getaway that included a tasting tour of the seven, pretty wineries on the old Mission Peninsula. It was a fun weekend and a great way to kick off the holiday season too.
When we arrived Friday night, we went into downtown Traverse City for a casual dinner. While there, we were happy to be able to experience the tree lighting activities that were happening that night.
The shops were open, the streets were closed to traffic and the carolers were singing. It was very festive.
The next morning, we were picked up at our hotel by a driver, who would take us to the seven wineries where we could do tastings and purchase any wine that we liked. We had a great time and loved having a driver, so we could just relax and enjoy the experience. We stopped at a wonderful restaurant for lunch in between some of the tastings and enjoyed sitting and relaxing by a cozy fire.
At each winery, you could taste five different wines, of all varieties and by the end of the day, you definitely begin to know what you like. We purchased a favorite bottle at five of the wineries. I am especially looking forward to serving the spiced, cherry wine that is served warm, and will be perfect over the holidays.
Later that evening, we had a wonderful, romantic dinner at Trattoria Stella and were seated at a table within these lovely brick arches.
Before heading home on Sunday, we made sure to go to my favorite breakfast restaurant in Taverse City. It was a great trip and though we were hoping to see more snow, northern Michigan never fails to be a relaxing, beautiful destination for a weekend away.
Happy Monday!
this looks amazing, my boyfriend and i want to do this one year. i told him i'd like to do it in the fall season though because the vineyards look so beautiful.

ReplyDeleteThat is great. I didn't know that you could do that on Old Mission Peninsula. I have been to Chanteau Chantal. We stayed there years ago. It used to be that if you stayed in the bed and breakfast that you could drink any open bottle in the evening around the fire. Lovely. Thanks for the information!
ReplyDeleteJeez- you and I could be twins- or at least good friends! We have also recently celebrated our 31st Anniversary and enjoyed a beautiful meal and a great bottle of wine. I've always wanted to visit Traverse City and now more than ever!
