December Reading List

There is not a lot that comes between me and a good book. Even the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season can't keep me from finding time to read. In fact, escaping with a good book can be a wonderful relief from the stress of the holiday season and the never ending lists that run around in my head. How lovely the thought of curling up on the couch with a book; the fire burning and the Christmas tree shining in the corner.

My December reading list has three books; one by a favorite author and two recommended by blog friends. This has become one of my favorite ways to find new books. They are avid readers like me and since our tastes are similar, I usually love any book they love.

Small Blessings by Martha Woodruff was recommended by Claudia at Mockingbird Hill Cottage. It sounds like the quiet, intelligent kind of novel I always enjoy.

"In the world of Small Blessings, to choose happiness is to take a risk... Optimistic, wise, and beautifully written, this book about love in all its colors, hope, and the glory of third chances will stay with you long after you close the cover."—Joshilyn Jackson, New York Times bestselling author of A Grown Up Kind of Pretty

The Good Girl by Mary Kubica was recommended by Katie at the Preppy Empty Nester. Katie and I have loved many of the same novels and she said this is even better than Gone Girl. The excerpt below has definately drawn me in and I can't wait to see what will happen.

"I've been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don't know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she's scared. But I will."

Flesh and Blood by Patricia Cornwell is another novel in the story of Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta. While often dark in subject, the characters are wonderful and the writing is highly intelligent and fast paced. I love a good thriller and look forward to catching up with characters I love.

Happy Reading!

  3. I think I would like all 3 of these books. My hubby and I say we are bookaholics. I get book ideas from blog buddies too, thanks for these tips. I am giving away 2 copies of the Christmas book I wrote; just visit my blog and leave a comment.

  8. Think I'll keep "Small Blessings" on my must read list as it sounds like a nice book. Don't go for scary or bloody, so the other two are out.
Currently reading "The Signature of All Things" by the woman who wrote Eat, Pray, Love. Very different from her other novels as it's set in 1800's Philadelphia. The story of a quiet spinster and her search for love. I'm enjoying it.
