I felt the need to somewhat simplify my Christmas decor this year; to create space instead of filling it. I realized that I didn't need to use every piece of decoration in the storage boxes and by strategically placing the treasured favorites, I could still enjoy them with a calmer feel. I looked at everything I placed with a new eye and the thought that less could be more.
A perfect example of this is the three simple wreaths I placed on my two story foyer stairway instead of the garland I have used in the past. Tied with pretty, plaid burlap ribbon, the effect is simple and sweet and the tree becomes the star. I didn't worry about tying a bow and think the knot gives the casual charm I was looking for.
When you enter my home this holiday season, the tall foyer tree shines bright in Christmas greeting with the lights of the mantel beyond. Dramatic, yet simple. A backdrop for the tree, that helps it stand out in all it's lighted beauty. Simplify - I like that word, even when it comes to Christmas.
Happy Tuesday!

I've done pretty much the same thing this year. I like how you have made the tree become the star.
ReplyDeleteHope you and your family have a blessed Chrismas....Enjoy!

I agree, simple is so often the best choice, and you've really given the tree the main stage!
ReplyDeletesimple looks Superb~!
ReplyDeleteYour foyer looks lovely. Your tree is very pretty, Vicki!
ReplyDeleteIt is all just lovely. I put out less and less each year. I agree with you! Less is best!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Vicki! I keep telling my lazy self I'm going "simplier" this year too. That's why I didn't even drag half the stuff out that I normall do!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the simplified look. We got rid of so much Christmas "stuff" when we moved overseas, and it feels refreshing to just put out the things you love.
ReplyDeleteI actually over decorated with EVERYTHING from the attic. Then I slowly removed most of it. We went with a skinny pencil tree this year that takes up so little space in our entry that we don't feel overwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks lovely.
I simplified also! After lunch with friends today, we shopped... I resisted the temptation to buy MORE decorations! So many pretties but I have plenty:) Enjoy your evening in your beautiful home! HUGS!
ReplyDeleteVery nice Vicki . . .
ReplyDeleteLove the simplicity of the wreaths. I think anything more would compete too much with that spectacular tree!!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty ..Simple is good...
ReplyDeleteI really hear you, Vicki. Who wants to move things to set down a drink or plate? Your stairway looks fabulous! I'm trying...so far I haven't done my coffee or end tables...maybe just a few candles or a vase of pretty flowers?

I too am a fan of simplifying Christmas. At first I did it because I just didn't have time for anything more but now it is so nice not to be stressed about getting everything done. I can enjoy Christmas more.
ReplyDeleteI simplified Christmas this year as well. We always celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving together with the children. So at Christmas it just me and my hubbie.
ReplyDeleteYour decorations are beautiful. I love your pretty tree. I am your newest follower.
That is so charming! I like your thinking of how to decorate a little less, but a little more at the same time!
ReplyDeleteWe simplified also!! Less decorating and more living! It has been easier to put away too. Happy New Year! Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
